What to Do in Key West Is Chill and Rest

Key West is the Southern Most Point on the Continental United States

When you consider what to do in Key West, Florida you will go to a spot with fascinating culture, balmy weather and beaches, and an “away from everything” location.  It is about 150 miles from Miami, and is going to take around 3.5 hours to drive from there.  That makes it a good deal nearer to Cuba which is just 90 miles distant.  But it will really feel like you’re in a different world, as there is no place in the United States resembling it.

Key West is a city on the island of Key West, that is about four miles long by two miles wide.  Until 1912 it was quite remote, when the Overseas Railway extension of Henry Flagler’s Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) had its opening.  The Labor Day hurricane of 1935 destroyed the railroad, and the FEC determined not to rebuild it.  The U.S. government then rebuilt the route as a highway, marking its beginning as 1938 as a lengthening of U.S. Highway 1.

What to Do in Key West Revolves Around Sun and Culture

When you decide to find what to do in Key West, if you are a sun-enthusiast and love the water, this will be the spot for you.  These are some of the activities you can choose to do:

1.    Fishing.  You can have an excellent deep-sea fishing encounter, as you will find numerous private boats as well as party boats for use.  Flats’ fishing is also very popular at the Florida Keys.  It requires no particular equipment or skill-set.  You don’t even require a boat.  Simply wade out in shallow water and cast your fishing line, and there you could hook bonefish and tarpon, as well as other fish that are normally found in shallow water.  You are not going to hook any trophy fish, but there is going to be fish within the shallow waters.  Or many decide to make use of a flatbed skiff.

2.    Beaches.  Naturally you will find plentiful beaches, the majority of these on a south side within the island.  Lifeguards will not be present on the beaches, so swim at your own risk.  So even though you will not find some of our best beaches in Florida, because they will be on the west coast of Florida, those tranquil azure waters as well as coastal reefs make it well-liked for swimming and snorkeling.

4.    Golf.  Key West contains an eighteen  hole public golf course which is located within beautiful tropical scenery.  There will be a restaurant, clubhouse, driving range and pro shop.

5.    Cultural experience.  This is what many people feel sets Key West apart from some other holiday destinations.  There’s a great deal of history in the area, and museums to tell you about it.  You can come into contact with the town taking one of the tour trains or trolleys, and cruise out to the reef to experience the island from another viewpoint.  Key West has always attracted people in the arts, and there are several fine art galleries displaying local as well as international talent.

When you will be searching for things to do in Florida, if you happen to be into a laid-back holiday, the what to do in Key West, Florida will be certainly a place to think about.  It’s going to take you some time to get there, nevertheless you will feel you will be hundreds of miles from the hectic metropolitan areas.
